So here it is, the truth is out

Our Union’s General Secretary has now released “Project Clean Up: Interim Report into Allegations of Historic Corruption”.

Here it all is on the Unite website.

It’s been long awaited. And looking at the report, we can see why.

The document in our hands is the fruit of five detailed independent investigations by lawyers and forensic accountants.

And there’s clearly also been a lengthy to-and-fro with the police, who imposed big redactions and threatened an injunction if more came out.

South Wales Police say their investigations are now getting to a conclusion, and a certain “former official” may soon have his day in court. Here’s hoping …

But even with all the black boxes, it’s clear as day on Birmingham.

A load of our union’s money went missing. At least £30 million overcharging.

Just who pocketed how much, where it all ended up, is the big question that still needs an answer. So we can get our money back.

The report’s been all over the news now. (E.g., BBC report here). As you’d expect, given how media sensationalism works, the focus has been largely on one person’s freebies. (With a whole new spin to the saying “the enemy of the working class arrives by private jet not migrant dinghy”.)

We recommend to everyone who cares about our union, if you haven’t already, have a good read for yourself.
