What a surprise! “United Left” have united with The Sun to attack bin dispute

Pathetic. But just as, by now, we’d sadly come to expect.

After getting their “Unite sources” quotes in The Times and the BBC last week (see previous post), the UL and their “allies” did, as we predicted, today turn to briefing The Sun to attack the dispute.

The article titled “Union bosses holding up Birmingham bin deal ….” (again, no we’re not posting a link to that rag) parrots the exact same lines used by members of the “United Left supporters group”. Notably by some of the same EC members who stormed out of the meeting last month. Right down to the exact same made-up numbers. Leaving little doubt at all as to who’s been ringing up The Sun.

The article says: “The dispute revolves around a £42million ‘strike fund’ which has dwindled thanks to more than 1,000 industrial actions fought under Graham’s tenure.”

Unsurprisingly the figure is wrong as is the implication. Just one more vomit inducing innuendo to add to a long list. We have spent more on strikes. Why? Because we are actually focussed on the workplace, not kissing the arse of Labour factions!

Let’s repeat once more: we will never be ashamed of fighting, and winning, for our members. And despite more strikes and strike pay, the union has higher liquid assets now than we ever had under McCluskey.

Its unnamed “source” also accuses the Union of “blocking a debate around finances and publication of accounts”. A disgusting attack and a complete lie, no doubt designed to throw into doubt the very serious allegations of corruption under the last regime. What kind of “Unite representative” would do that? Well, I think we have our answer…

And once more: the 2021 accounts are being re-audited. Why? Because of the corruption investigations, and a write down of £56 million due to the Birmingham Hotel fiasco. We really are in a post-truth world when the same gang that failed to ask one single question of note about Birmingham or Beckett, are now trying to use this “write down” to attack the current General Secretary.

Sadly not unexpected. But also just stupid.

The Sun was always going to attack the Birmingham bin strike and the Union. That’s what it does. The UL “comrades”, those champions of international socialism (a.k.a. jaunts to Havana and Vegas), have just added a trickle of extra in-fighting bin juice, while smearing their grubby fingerprints all over it.

It really is time to clean up our Union.
