As the Union’s interim report into corruption nears its release date, the United Left (UL) supporters group have doubled down on their strategy of pouring scorn on any allegations of corruption.
But if they had bothered to attend the recent Executive Council meeting they would have had something repeated to them. And that’s probably the main reason why they didn’t turn up.
They would have been told (again!) that the Union is now having to undertake a full re-audit of its accounts for the period BEFORE the current General Secretary came to office.
Why? Because of the absolutely absurd level of losses from the Birmingham hotel project that are now having to be “written down”. We are told by a member who attended the finance report that the scale of the “adjustment” is over £56 million.
Just let that sink in for a second. £56 million.
And that is 56 million reasons why the UL supporters group need to go. Not one single searching question was asked by the UL during all the time that McCluskey was in office, about actual spending on Birmingham.
Just let that sink in for a second. Not one.
Meanwhile this small street corner gang (because that is what they are) have spent over two years throwing a continuous stream of crap at the current General Secretary, spreading downright lies and bringing our Union into total disrepute.
For the sake of our members, they need to go.
